Superintendent Barbara Jenkins Announces Faith-based “Adopt-A-School” Initiative:
For decades, faith-based organizations have been partnering with schools throughout Orange County. Orange County Public Schools is expanding its outreach to faith- and community-based organizations to partner with public education.
In order to be the top producers of successful students in the nation; we have to be focused, determined and committed to providing our youth with as many resources as possible. Through the Partners in Education program, adopting-a-school is a great vehicle for connecting with a school in your local community. Join us in promoting four basic messages to maximize student success by creating healthy conditions at school and in the home – good character, stay-in-school, say no to drugs or alcohol and stop all bullying.
Through this incredible invitation we have the opportunity to reach out and touch the lives of students, their families and the staff and faculty of Killarney Elementary School. We ask you to pray for our church as we strategically engage in this unique community ministry. We also ask you to consider volunteering in the following areas.
- School-based Mentoring cultivates trusting relationships between adult role models and students, developing pro-social skills in students and a sense of belonging among their peers, families, and communities. You are invited to each lunch with a student once a week in the school cafeteria.
- Classroom Volunteers help teachers in the classroom in a variety of ways such as working on bulletin boards, reading with students, helping with classroom work etc…
- Food Pantry Volunteers go to the school on Wednesday mornings and help prepare food bags for children to take home on the weekends.
- Other opportunities are available depending on your own interests, resources and availability.
All other volunteer opportunities are coordinated through the ADDitions School Volunteers program. Registration is done on the Orange County Public Schools website: www.ocps.net Under “Quick Links” click on “School Volunteer Sign-Up.”Share
